With so many styles of lamp shades to choose from; knots, colors, fabrics, Tiffany, glass, classic, contemporary, simply to name a few, how can you understand what to choose?
Of course any lamp shade needs to fit in with the over all design scheme in your house but these simple lamp shade professional design tips may help to get you going in the simple direction.
- Prevent the fundamental white shade. All these are really too generic and do nothing for the look of the room. Unless you’re going for a more “minimalist” type appearance. Try tying a coloured shade in to pull out another colour in the room.
- Match the shape of the colour with the base of the lamp. If you’ve got a rectangular shaped base, start looking for a similar shaped colour. If it’s a round base locate a round shade. If the shade dwarfs the base, it will draw embarrassing focus on itself, with all the converse also being true.
The plan rule to fit the shade to the lamp is to make sure the shade is no smaller than 1/3 of those lamps overall height using the bulb in place. In addition, the shade needs to pay the on/off switch or string with the base of the shade sitting slightly above the surface of the base.
